Fluorite is calcium fluoride, CaF₂, and crystallizes in the cubic system. It is famous for an exceptionally broad color range including purple, green, blue, yellow, colorless, pink, and multicolored zoning. Fluorite has perfect octahedral cleavage and defines hardness 4 on the Mohs scale.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Fluorite forms in hydrothermal veins, carbonate replacement deposits, skarns, pegmatites, and some sedimentary environments. It commonly occurs with quartz, calcite, barite, galena, sphalerite, and other ore minerals. Major specimen localities include China, Mexico, England, Spain, Morocco, Namibia, and the United States.
