Tanzanite

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Tanzanite is the blue-to-violet gem variety of zoisite, Ca₂Al₃(SiO₄)₃(OH). It is strongly pleochroic, showing blue, violet, and brownish tones along different directions.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
It forms in metamorphic rocks near Merelani, Tanzania, where unusual vanadium-bearing fluids and high-grade metamorphism created gem zoisite. The commercial deposit is geographically restricted.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Tanzanite is traditionally associated with intuition, meditation, perspective, and personal transformation. Its natural structure, color, and geological history provide a symbolic framework for approaching change with greater awareness. Practitioners commonly use it as a contemplative aid for examining patterns from a wider viewpoint and creating mental space for reflection. These associations are part of crystal traditions and are not scientifically established medical effects.
