Stromatolite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Stromatolite is a laminated sedimentary structure built by microbial communities, especially cyanobacteria and other microorganisms. It is a fossil/biogenic rock structure rather than a mineral species.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Stromatolites form when microbial mats trap sediment and promote mineral precipitation in shallow-water environments. Ancient examples preserve some of Earth's oldest widespread evidence of life.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Stromatolite is traditionally associated with ancient perspective, patience, continuity, and grounded reflection. Its preserved geological or biological history makes it a direct symbol of deep time, continuity, and adaptation. Practitioners commonly use it as a contemplative aid for placing present challenges within a longer timeline and learning from accumulated experience. These associations are part of crystal traditions and are not scientifically established medical effects.
KEY PROPERTIES
Clarity • Balance • Resilience • Grounding • Perspective • Growth • Intention
CHAKRA: Root • Third Eye
ELEMENT: Earth • Air
ZODIAC: All Zodiac Signs
MOHS HARDNESS: Variable; commonly ~3–7
ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Fossil/rock structure. Mineral composition and hardness depend on silicification or carbonate content.
