Shungite

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Shungite is a carbon-rich Precambrian rock from Karelia, Russia, containing noncrystalline carbon dispersed through silicate and other mineral components. It ranges from dull black common shungite to lustrous carbon-rich varieties.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
It occurs in ancient sedimentary and metamorphosed sequences around Lake Onega. Its carbon origin has been debated and may reflect complex biological and geological processes.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Shungite is traditionally associated with grounding, protection, discernment, and emotional steadiness. Its natural structure, color, and geological history provide a symbolic framework for approaching change with greater awareness. Practitioners commonly use it as a contemplative aid for staying centered when circumstances feel intense, distracting, or uncertain. These associations are part of crystal traditions and are not scientifically established medical effects.

KEY PROPERTIES
Grounding • Protection • Discernment • Stability • Focus • Boundaries • Resilience
