Selenite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Selenite is the transparent to translucent crystalline variety of gypsum, CaSO₄·2H₂O. Gypsum is monoclinic, very soft, and has perfect cleavage.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
It forms in evaporite basins, saline lakes, caves, hydrothermal settings, and as a secondary sulfate mineral. Large clear crystals can grow where sulfate-rich groundwater evaporates slowly.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Selenite is traditionally associated with clarity, balance, resilience, and intentional personal growth. Its natural structure, color, and geological history provide a symbolic framework for approaching change with greater awareness. Practitioners commonly use it as a contemplative aid for reflecting on priorities and choosing a more deliberate response instead of reacting automatically. These associations are part of crystal traditions and are not scientifically established medical effects.
