Petrified Wood
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Petrified Wood is fossil wood whose original tissues have been replaced or infilled by silica, commonly chalcedony, quartz, and opal, with iron and manganese minerals adding color.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Wood becomes rapidly buried in ash, sediment, or waterlogged environments, then mineral-rich groundwater penetrates cellular spaces and gradually replaces organic material while preserving structure.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Petrified Wood is traditionally associated with ancient perspective, patience, continuity, and grounded reflection. Its preserved geological or biological history makes it a direct symbol of deep time, continuity, and adaptation. Practitioners commonly use it as a contemplative aid for placing present challenges within a longer timeline and learning from accumulated experience. These associations are part of crystal traditions and are not scientifically established medical effects.
