Petrified Ironwood
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Petrified Ironwood is a trade name for dense silicified fossil wood, often dark brown, red, black, or metallic-looking because of iron oxides. The original wood structure is replaced or infilled mainly by chalcedony and quartz.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Buried wood was penetrated by silica-rich groundwater; organic tissue decayed while silica and iron minerals preserved cellular textures over geological time.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Petrified Ironwood is traditionally associated with ancient perspective, patience, continuity, and grounded reflection. Its preserved geological or biological history makes it a direct symbol of deep time, continuity, and adaptation. Practitioners commonly use it as a contemplative aid for placing present challenges within a longer timeline and learning from accumulated experience. These associations are part of crystal traditions and are not scientifically established medical effects.
