Maligano Jasper
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Maligano Jasper is a modern trade name for brecciated, silicified volcanic material from Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is commonly composed of jasper- and chalcedony-rich fragments cemented by later silica, with gray, cream, blue-gray, orange, brown, and black patterns. It is a rock rather than a separate mineral species.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
The material records volcanic fragmentation followed by hydrothermal silicification. Earlier rock broke into angular fragments, then silica-rich fluids filled fractures and cemented the pieces together, sometimes adding agate or chalcedony zones. This multi-stage process creates the dramatic breccia patterns.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Maligano Jasper is traditionally associated with resilience, rebuilding, grounding, opportunity, and integrating experiences that initially felt fragmented. Its geology makes it an especially direct symbol of broken pieces becoming part of a new coherent structure.
