Magnetite

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Magnetite is iron oxide, Fe₃O₄, and crystallizes in the isometric system. It is black, metallic to submetallic, strongly ferrimagnetic, and commonly forms octahedral crystals, granular masses, and dense iron ore. Magnetite is one of the most important naturally magnetic minerals.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Magnetite occurs in igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks, banded iron formations, skarns, hydrothermal systems, beach placers, and many ore deposits. It can crystallize directly from magma or form through metamorphism and oxidation-reduction reactions involving other iron minerals.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Magnetite is traditionally associated with grounding, attraction, direction, focus, stability, and balancing opposing forces. Its real magnetic behavior provides unusually direct symbolism of orientation and connection.
