Löllingite

Löllingite

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Löllingite is iron arsenide, FeAs₂. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and forms steel-gray to silver-white metallic prismatic crystals and massive aggregates. It is dense, brittle, and may contain minor sulfur, cobalt, nickel, or bismuth.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Löllingite forms in high-temperature hydrothermal veins, skarns, pegmatites, and metamorphic ore deposits. It commonly occurs with arsenopyrite, cobalt-nickel arsenides, cassiterite, sulfides, and native metals. Important occurrences are known from Austria, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Bolivia, and other ore districts.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Löllingite is traditionally associated with concentration, discipline, grounding, courage, and confronting difficult realities directly. Its dense metallic character gives it strong symbolism around focus and responsibility. Because it contains arsenic, metaphysical use is best limited to careful display or contemplation.
