Lizardite

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Lizardite is a serpentine-group mineral with the ideal formula Mg₃Si₂O₅(OH)₄. It commonly occurs as fine-grained, platy, massive, or pseudomorphic material in pale green, yellow-green, white, and gray. It shares chemistry with other serpentine minerals but differs in crystal structure.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Lizardite forms during serpentinization, when water reacts with magnesium-rich ultramafic rocks containing olivine and pyroxene. This low- to moderate-temperature hydrothermal alteration produces serpentine minerals, magnetite, brucite, and related phases. It is widespread in ophiolites and ultramafic complexes around the world.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Lizardite is traditionally associated with grounding, adaptation, emotional release, self-discipline, and reconnecting with the physical present. Its formation through hydration of ultramafic rock gives it symbolism of transformation through softening and interaction rather than destruction.

KEY PROPERTIES
Grounding • Adaptability • Emotional release • Discipline • Renewal • Stability • Nature connection

CHAKRA: Heart • Root
ELEMENT: Earth
ZODIAC: Gemini • Scorpio
MOHS HARDNESS: ~2.5

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Valid serpentine-group mineral. Avoid generating dust from serpentine-rich rocks because fibrous serpentine minerals can occur in related materials.
