Leucitite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Leucitite is an igneous rock dominated by leucite, a potassium aluminum silicate feldspathoid with formula KAlSi₂O₆, together with mafic minerals such as clinopyroxene and olivine. The Crystal Council page uses the title 'Leucitite' but describes the mineral leucite; scientifically, leucitite is the rock and leucite is the individual mineral.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Leucitite forms from potassium-rich, silica-undersaturated volcanic magma. Because there is insufficient silica to form ordinary potassium feldspar, leucite crystallizes instead. Classic leucite-bearing volcanic rocks occur in Italy around Roman volcanic provinces, with other examples in East Africa, Indonesia, and several alkaline volcanic regions.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Leucitite is traditionally associated with grounding, individuality, courage, self-discipline, and expressing one's own direction without unnecessary conformity. Its unusual silica-poor alkaline geology gives it symbolism of developing through a path that differs from more common mineral systems.
KEY PROPERTIES
Grounding • Individuality • Courage • Discipline • Self-expression • Strength • Purpose
CHAKRA: Root • Solar Plexus
ELEMENT: Earth
ZODIAC: Capricorn • Leo
MOHS HARDNESS: Variable; leucite ~5.5–6
ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Important correction: leucitite is a volcanic rock; leucite is the feldspathoid mineral. They should not be treated as synonyms.
