Larvikite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Larvikite is an igneous rock, not a mineral, composed mainly of ternary feldspar with smaller amounts of pyroxene, amphibole, biotite, and accessory minerals. Its characteristic blue-silver flash results from optical interference within exsolved feldspar structures and is sometimes informally compared with labradorescence.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Larvikite crystallized from alkaline intrusive magma in the Oslo Rift region of southern Norway during the Permian. Slow cooling produced coarse feldspar crystals and distinctive internal exsolution textures. The rock is quarried extensively as an ornamental and dimension stone and is strongly associated with the Larvik area.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Larvikite is traditionally associated with grounding, protection, mental clarity, perspective, and connecting intuition with practical decision-making. Its flashes emerging from a dark rock matrix make it a symbol of insight that stays firmly connected to reality.

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Igneous rock, not 'black labradorite.' Its optical effect is feldspar-related, but larvikite is a distinct rock type.
