Larimar

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Larimar is the blue gem variety of pectolite, a sodium-calcium silicate hydroxide mineral with the ideal formula NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH). Copper-related chemistry is widely associated with its blue coloration. Larimar typically occurs as massive fibrous or radiating pectolite rather than large isolated crystals.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Larimar is found in the Dominican Republic, where pectolite mineralization fills cavities and fractures within altered volcanic rocks. Hot mineral-rich fluids moved through basaltic and andesitic host rocks and precipitated pectolite in veins and vesicles. Weathering can release durable pieces into alluvial deposits.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Larimar is traditionally associated with calm communication, emotional release, compassion, confidence, and balancing strong feelings with a gentler response. Its ocean-blue patterning gives it especially strong symbolism around flow and emotional flexibility.
