Kunzite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Kunzite is the pink to lilac gem variety of spodumene, LiAlSi₂O₆. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, is strongly pleochroic, and commonly forms long flattened prismatic crystals. Manganese produces its pink-violet coloration. Although its Mohs hardness is 6.5–7, perfect cleavage makes it sensitive to impact.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Kunzite forms in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites where highly evolved magma concentrates lithium, aluminum, manganese, and volatile components. Major sources include Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brazil, Madagascar, and the United States. The best color can fade with prolonged exposure to strong sunlight or heat.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Kunzite is traditionally associated with compassion, emotional openness, self-love, calm affection, and expressing vulnerability without abandoning healthy boundaries. Its pale pink-lilac color links it strongly with the heart while its transparent crystal habit adds themes of clarity and honesty.

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Pink spodumene variety. Light exposure can fade color, and perfect cleavage makes it more fragile than hardness alone suggests.
