Kobyashevite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Kobyashevite is a rare hydrated copper sulfate hydroxide mineral with the formula Cu₅(SO₄)₂(OH)₆·4H₂O. It crystallizes in the triclinic system and forms tiny bluish-green to turquoise crystals, crusts, and coatings. It is extremely soft, with a Mohs hardness around 2.5, and can decompose rapidly in water.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Kobyashevite is a secondary copper mineral found in oxidized sulfate-rich mineral environments. It was first described from the Vishnevye Mountains in Russia and is also reported from a small number of other localities. Copper sulfate solutions can also artificially grow similar coatings on calcite, making provenance and specimen integrity especially important.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Kobyashevite is traditionally associated with communication, self-expression, compassion, emotional clarity, and having the confidence to show one's genuine thoughts and feelings. Its delicate blue-green crystals give it symbolism of subtle but honest communication rather than forceful expression.
