Kinoite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Kinoite is a hydrated calcium copper silicate mineral with the formula Ca₂Cu₂Si₃O₁₀·2H₂O. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and typically forms intense azure-blue to blue-green prismatic crystals, coatings, and aggregates. Copper is responsible for its vivid coloration.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Kinoite is a secondary mineral of oxidized copper deposits, particularly in environments where calcium- and silica-rich fluids react with copper-bearing host rocks. The type locality is the Christmas Mine in Arizona, and important specimens have also come from other southwestern U.S. copper deposits and related localities.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Kinoite is traditionally associated with communication, emotional honesty, intuition, and expressing difficult feelings without escalating conflict. Its vivid blue color links it strongly with throat symbolism, while its copper-rich chemistry adds a theme of energetic movement and connection.
