K2

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
K2 is a trade name for a pale granitic rock from northern Pakistan containing vivid blue copper-mineral spots, generally identified as azurite with occasional malachite. The host rock contains feldspar, quartz, mica, and other granitic minerals. It is not a single mineral and is not technically jasper.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
The granitic host formed from slowly cooled felsic magma in the Karakoram region. Later copper-bearing fluids moved through fractures and alteration zones, producing secondary azurite and malachite after the granite had crystallized. The exact commercial locality is commonly described as the K2 region of Pakistan, although provenance should be documented because mining is remote and trade descriptions can be imprecise.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
K2 is traditionally associated with intuition, higher perspective, grounding, and bringing abstract insight into practical understanding. The bright blue copper minerals against a pale granitic matrix create a visual symbol of concentrated awareness held within a stable foundation.

KEY PROPERTIES
Intuition • Perspective • Grounding • Insight • Meditation • Clarity • Spiritual integration

CHAKRA: Third Eye • Crown • Root
ELEMENT: Storm • Earth
ZODIAC: Sagittarius
MOHS HARDNESS: Variable; matrix ~6–7, azurite ~3.5–4

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Trade-name multi-mineral rock. A single hardness of 7 is misleading because the blue copper-mineral spots are softer than the granitic matrix.
