Jade
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Jade is a gemological rock term for two fundamentally different materials: jadeitite, dominated by jadeite pyroxene (NaAlSi₂O₆), and nephrite, a dense felted aggregate dominated by tremolite–actinolite amphiboles. Both are exceptionally tough because of their interlocking textures, but their chemistry, crystal structure, and geological origins differ. Jade occurs in green, white, lavender, yellow, brown, gray, black, and other colors.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Jadeite forms mainly in high-pressure, relatively low-temperature subduction-zone environments where sodium-rich fluids react with suitable rocks. Nephrite forms metasomatically, commonly where serpentinite or dolomitic carbonate rocks interact with calcium- and silica-bearing fluids. Important jadeite sources include Myanmar and Guatemala, while major nephrite regions include China, Canada, Siberia, New Zealand, and other ancient convergent-margin belts.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Jade is traditionally associated with harmony, prosperity, protection, patience, compassion, and wise long-term decision-making. Rather than representing rapid change, jade symbolism emphasizes stability that grows through consistent choices. It is commonly used for relationship balance, grounded abundance, and maintaining emotional composure while pursuing long-range goals.

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Jade is not one mineral. It may be nephrite or jadeitite; visual appearance alone is not a reliable identification method.
