Irnimite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Irnimite is a trade name for a rare blue to violet microquartzite or jasper-like rock containing richterite, piemontite, manganese oxides, and other accessory phases. The silica-rich host gives it substantial hardness, while blue, purple, red, and black inclusions create streaked or mottled patterns. It is a rock, not a separate mineral species.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
The material is associated with manganese-rich metamorphic rocks in South Africa. Silica-rich rock recrystallized together with amphibole and manganese minerals under metamorphic conditions, producing the unusual blue-violet coloration and contrasting veins.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Irnimite is traditionally associated with intuition, grounding, transformation, and translating abstract insight into practical understanding. Its blue-violet colors suggest higher perception while the dense quartz-rich body provides an earthy stabilizing symbolism.
