SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Inesite is a hydrated calcium manganese silicate mineral, commonly written Ca₂Mn₇Si₁₀O₂₈(OH)₂·5H₂O. It crystallizes in the triclinic system and forms pink, rose-red, orange-red, brown, or pale crystals and radiating aggregates. Manganese is responsible for much of its distinctive coloration.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Inesite forms in low-temperature hydrothermal manganese deposits and cavities where calcium-, manganese-, and silica-rich fluids interact. It is associated with rhodochrosite, rhodonite, calcite, quartz, datolite, and other manganese minerals. Fine specimens come from China, South Africa, Japan, Romania, and the United States.
