Indicolite is the gem-trade name for blue tourmaline, most commonly blue elbaite but potentially other tourmaline-group species. Colors range from pale blue and teal to deep indigo and blue-green. Iron is a major color-producing element in many blue tourmalines.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Blue tourmaline commonly forms in boron-rich granitic pegmatites and, less commonly, metamorphic environments. Long prismatic crystals may display complex color zoning as fluid chemistry changes during growth. Brazil, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Namibia, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Madagascar are notable sources.
