SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Hyalite is a transparent to translucent, colorless or pale opal variety commonly forming glassy botryoidal crusts and globules. Like all opal it is hydrated amorphous silica rather than a crystalline mineral. Some hyalite fluoresces vivid green under ultraviolet light because of trace uranyl species associated with the silica.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Hyalite forms as low-temperature silica precipitates from hydrothermal fluids, volcanic vapor, or groundwater in cavities and fractures. It is especially associated with volcanic and geothermal environments. Notable fluorescent material comes from Mexico, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and the United States.

Hyalite Opal is traditionally associated with clarity, intuition, calm, curiosity, and noticing subtle information that is easy to overlook. Its transparent body and dramatic UV response provide symbolism of hidden qualities becoming visible under different conditions.
