Hiddenite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Hiddenite is the green gem variety of spodumene, LiAlSi₂O₆, traditionally associated with chromium-colored material first described from North Carolina. Spodumene crystallizes in the monoclinic system and has perfect cleavage. Modern trade usage sometimes applies 'hiddenite' more broadly to green spodumene from other localities.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Spodumene forms in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites where late-stage magma concentrates lithium, aluminum, and silica. Classic hiddenite comes from Alexander County, North Carolina; green spodumene is also known from Brazil, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other pegmatite districts.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Hiddenite is traditionally associated with emotional renewal, gratitude, growth, self-worth, and approaching opportunity from a place of openness rather than fear. Its green color gives it heart-centered symbolism, while its lithium-bearing pegmatite origin adds a modern association with calm and composure.
