Herkimer Diamond
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Herkimer Diamonds are exceptionally clear, naturally double-terminated quartz crystals from Herkimer County and surrounding areas of New York. They are quartz, SiO₂, not diamond. Many show 18 naturally developed faces, strong luster, internal fractures, fluid inclusions, carbonaceous inclusions, or small hydrocarbon pockets.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
The crystals occur in cavities within Cambrian-age dolostone of the Little Falls Formation. Silica-rich fluids entered open pockets in the carbonate rock and grew free-standing quartz crystals with terminations at both ends because they were not attached to a matrix along their long axis.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Herkimer Diamond is traditionally associated with clarity, amplification, intuition, dream work, and focused intention. Its naturally double-terminated form symbolizes movement and exchange in more than one direction. It is often used for meditation, crystal grids, and sharpening a clearly defined intention.

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Quartz, not diamond. Strict locality usage refers to Herkimer-area New York quartz; similar double-terminated quartz from elsewhere is not technically a Herkimer Diamond.
