Hazu Tonalite is a locality trade name for tonalite from the Hazu region of Japan. Tonalite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock dominated by plagioclase feldspar and quartz, with biotite, hornblende, and other dark minerals commonly present. It is closely related to granodiorite but contains little alkali feldspar.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Tonalite crystallizes slowly from intermediate to felsic magma deep within continental or island-arc crust. Slow cooling allows visible interlocking mineral grains to develop. Japanese tonalitic bodies record ancient plutonic activity associated with subduction and mountain-building along the island arc.
