Gyrolite is a hydrated calcium silicate mineral with a complex sheet structure and variable water content. It crystallizes in the triclinic system and commonly forms pearly white, colorless, pale green, or bluish rosettes, spherical aggregates, and radiating plates. Its low hardness and perfect platy cleavage make delicate specimens fragile.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Gyrolite is a low-temperature hydrothermal mineral commonly found in cavities of basaltic volcanic rocks. It forms with zeolites, apophyllite, okenite, prehnite, calcite, and other secondary minerals as calcium- and silica-rich fluids circulate through cooled lava. India, Scotland, Greenland, and several oceanic basalt provinces are notable sources.
