Greenland Jade is a locality and trade name for jade material from Greenland. Jade is a gemological rock term that can refer to nephrite—a dense felted aggregate dominated by tremolite–actinolite amphibole—or jadeitite, a rock dominated by jadeite pyroxene. Greenland is known to yield nephrite jade, but because the commercial name alone does not prove the mineral species, individual material should be verified before assigning one fixed composition.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Nephrite generally forms by metasomatic reactions involving calcium-rich fluids and magnesium-rich rocks, commonly along serpentinite contacts or where dolomitic rocks interact with silica-bearing fluids. Greenland contains ancient metamorphic and ultramafic terrains capable of hosting such alteration systems. Material sold specifically as Greenland Jade should retain documented Greenland provenance because the name is geographic rather than mineralogical.
