Green Tourmaline, often called verdelite in the gem trade, is a color category within the tourmaline group rather than one species. Much gem green tourmaline is elbaite, but dravite, uvite, and other tourmaline species can also be green. Chromium, vanadium, iron, and manganese can influence coloration depending on the material.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Green tourmaline forms in granitic pegmatites, metamorphic rocks, and metasomatic environments enriched in boron. Pegmatites in Brazil, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, and the United States are important sources. Zoned crystals can record changing fluid chemistry during growth.
