Dragon Stone

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Dragon Stone is a trade name most commonly used for a green-and-red ornamental rock composed largely of epidote with red piemontite and/or iron-rich mineral phases. It is not a single mineral species, and the exact mineral proportions can vary. The contrasting colors often create spots, veins, and irregular patches.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Epidote- and piemontite-bearing rocks develop during metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration where calcium-, aluminum-, iron-, and manganese-rich fluids interact with suitable host rocks. Regional differences in chemistry control whether green epidote, red piemontite, hematite, or other phases dominate.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Dragon Stone is traditionally associated with vitality, courage, grounded ambition, and growth through challenge. Green areas contribute symbolism of development and balance, while red zones add themes of action and determination. It is often used when someone wants to pursue growth without losing connection to practical reality.
