SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Dioptase is a hydrated copper cyclosilicate, Cu₆Si₆O₁₈·6H₂O, known for intensely saturated emerald-green to blue-green crystals. It crystallizes in the trigonal system and usually forms short prismatic crystals with a brilliant vitreous luster. Despite its gem-like appearance, it is relatively brittle and has perfect cleavage.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Dioptase forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, especially in arid environments where silica-rich and copper-rich fluids interact. It commonly occurs with calcite, chrysocolla, malachite, cerussite, and other oxidized ore minerals. Famous specimens come from Namibia, Kazakhstan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Arizona.

Dioptase is traditionally associated with emotional honesty, compassion, releasing attachment, and allowing the heart to remain open without denying pain. Its intense green color gives it powerful heart symbolism.
