Dendritic Agate is chalcedony containing branching, tree-like inclusions, most commonly manganese and iron oxides. Despite their organic appearance, the dendrites are inorganic mineral growths and are not fossil plants. The host is microcrystalline quartz and may be translucent, white, gray, cream, or lightly colored.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Dendrites form when metal-rich fluids migrate through fine fractures or porous chalcedony and deposit manganese or iron oxides in branching patterns. The host chalcedony itself forms from silica-rich fluids in cavities, fractures, and sedimentary settings. Notable material occurs in India, Brazil, Turkey, the United States, and many other regions.
