Danburite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Danburite is a calcium borosilicate mineral, CaB₂Si₂O₈, that crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. It commonly forms transparent to translucent prismatic crystals in colorless, pale yellow, champagne, or pink tones. Its hardness of 7–7.5 and vitreous luster make gem-quality crystals suitable for faceting.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Danburite occurs in contact-metamorphic rocks, hydrothermal veins, and some pegmatitic environments where boron-rich fluids react with calcium-bearing host rocks. Important localities include Mexico, Japan, Russia, Madagascar, Myanmar, and Tanzania.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Danburite is traditionally associated with clarity, emotional lightness, compassion, and seeing a difficult situation from a broader perspective. Its transparent crystals give it symbolism of openness and mental space. It is often used for meditation when someone wants insight without becoming detached from kindness or empathy.
