Dali Calcite is a trade name for colorful banded calcite from the Dali region of Yunnan, China, and is sometimes marketed as 'Pork Stone' because red, cream, and brown layers can resemble meat. The mineral is calcite, CaCO₃, with coloration produced by iron, manganese, and other impurities.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
The banded material forms through repeated carbonate deposition in fractures, veins, or layered carbonate environments. Changes in fluid chemistry produce alternating cream, red, brown, and yellow zones. Cutting across these layers creates the highly decorative patterns seen in polished material.
