Colorless Topaz is transparent topaz without strong color-producing defects or trace-element effects. Topaz is an aluminum fluorosilicate, Al₂SiO₄(F,OH)₂, crystallizing in the orthorhombic system. It has a Mohs hardness of 8 but also perfect basal cleavage, which makes it vulnerable to splitting despite its high hardness.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Topaz forms in fluorine-rich evolved magmatic systems, especially granitic pegmatites, greisens, rhyolite cavities, and hydrothermal veins. Late-stage fluids enriched in fluorine allow topaz to crystallize with quartz, feldspar, mica, tourmaline, and other pegmatite minerals. Important localities include Brazil, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and the United States.
