Cobaltoan Calcite is a pink to magenta variety of calcite in which cobalt substitutes for some calcium in the CaCO₃ structure. It crystallizes in the trigonal system and can form rhombohedral, scalenohedral, crust-like, or massive growth. Increasing cobalt content generally intensifies the pink coloration, though associated manganese and other elements may also affect appearance.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Cobaltoan Calcite forms in hydrothermal cobalt- and copper-bearing ore deposits, where carbonate-rich fluids interact with metal-rich host rocks. It commonly occurs with malachite, heterogenite, cobalt minerals, dolomite, and sulfides. Exceptional material is especially associated with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Morocco.
