Chocolate Calcite

SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Chocolate Calcite is a trade/color name for brown to dark honey calcite, CaCO₃. It crystallizes in the trigonal system and retains calcite's perfect rhombohedral cleavage and strong reaction with dilute acid. Brown coloration can arise from iron-bearing impurities, organic material, or microscopic inclusions depending on the deposit.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Brown calcite forms in carbonate sedimentary rocks, hydrothermal veins, caves, and replacement deposits where mineral-rich fluids precipitate calcium carbonate. Repeated growth, impurities, or zoning can create bands ranging from cream and caramel to dark chocolate brown.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Chocolate Calcite is traditionally associated with grounding, emotional steadiness, patience, and developing confidence through consistent effort. Its warm earthy color makes it a symbol of returning attention to practical needs and sustainable routines. It is often used when someone wants progress that feels stable rather than rushed.
