Blue Kyanite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Blue Kyanite is the classic blue variety of kyanite, Al₂SiO₅. It is triclinic and typically forms elongated flattened blades, fibrous aggregates, and columnar crystals. Blue color commonly relates to trace iron and titanium. Like all kyanite, it has strongly directional hardness.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Kyanite forms under relatively high pressure during metamorphism of aluminum-rich rocks, making it an important indicator of metamorphic conditions. It occurs in mica schists, gneisses, quartz veins, and some pegmatitic environments. Important commercial sources include Brazil, Nepal, India, Kenya, Tanzania, and the United States.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Blue Kyanite is traditionally associated with communication, intuition, mental alignment, and meditative clarity. Its bladed form symbolizes directness and alignment, while the blue color links it with honest expression. It is often used for organizing scattered thoughts and communicating complex ideas more clearly.
