Blue Calcite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Blue Calcite is a blue variety of calcite, calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). Calcite crystallizes in the trigonal system, has perfect rhombohedral cleavage, and shows strong double refraction in clear crystals. Its blue coloration is caused by trace constituents, structural defects, or microscopic inclusions that vary by deposit.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Calcite forms in sedimentary limestones, hydrothermal veins, caves, metamorphic marbles, and many ore deposits. Blue massive calcite is commercially important from Mexico, while deeper blue material is also associated with South Africa and other localities.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Blue Calcite is traditionally associated with relaxation, communication, emotional decompression, and a quieter mental state. It is commonly used when overstimulation or emotional tension makes it difficult to think clearly. Its symbolism encourages slowing down enough to understand feelings before expressing them.
