Blue Apatite and Orange Calcite is a two-mineral ornamental material composed of blue apatite crystals set within an orange calcite matrix. The apatite is typically fluorapatite, a calcium phosphate mineral in the hexagonal crystal system, while calcite is calcium carbonate in the trigonal system. The vivid contrast comes from the blue apatite against iron- or inclusion-colored orange calcite; some Canadian material may also contain accessory fluorite.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
This combination develops where phosphate-rich apatite and carbonate minerals crystallize together within mineralized host rocks or veins. Blue apatite commonly forms in igneous, metamorphic, pegmatitic, and hydrothermal environments, while calcite is abundant in carbonate-rich veins and replacement zones. Commercial specimens are especially associated with Brazil and Canada, where the two phases can occur intergrown in massive material suitable for polishing.

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
