SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Bloodstone, or heliotrope, is a dark green variety of chalcedony or jasper containing contrasting red to brown spots, commonly produced by iron oxides such as hematite. It is composed primarily of microcrystalline quartz, SiO₂, with accessory minerals responsible for its color and opacity.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Bloodstone forms when silica-rich fluids precipitate microcrystalline quartz within cavities, fractures, or sedimentary environments while iron-bearing and green mineral components are incorporated. Commercial material is mined in India and also occurs in Brazil, China, Australia, Madagascar, and the United States.

Bloodstone is traditionally associated with courage, stamina, decisive action, and the ability to remain grounded under pressure. The contrast between deep green and red has long connected it symbolically with vitality and life force.
