Arizona Pietersite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Arizona Pietersite is a trade name and should not automatically be equated with true Namibian or Chinese pietersite. Gemological testing published by GIA on material sold as 'pietersite' from the Globe, Arizona area identified the tested material primarily as serpentine containing chrysotile and lizardite, with minor quartz and calcite, rather than true brecciated crocidolite-bearing pietersite.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
The Arizona material is associated with fibrous serpentine-rich rock that can display attractive chatoyancy when cut and polished. Because the trade label has been used inconsistently, exact composition should be verified for specific stock. True pietersite is a brecciated chatoyant chalcedony/tiger's-eye material best documented from Namibia and China.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Material sold as Arizona Pietersite is traditionally associated with focus, transformation, determination, and linking intuition with personal will. Its moving chatoyant effect makes it a symbolic stone for adapting to rapid change without losing direction. Practitioners often use it when committing to a goal, rebuilding confidence, or trying to turn insight into deliberate action.

CHAKRA: Third Eye • Solar Plexus
ELEMENT: Air
ZODIAC: Leo • Sagittarius
MOHS HARDNESS: ~3–5 depending on serpentine-rich material
ACCURACY NOTE
Important: trade name is mineralogically controversial. GIA documented Arizona 'pietersite' as serpentine-rich material, not true pietersite.
