Aragonite is one of the naturally occurring polymorphs of calcium carbonate, CaCO₃, sharing the same chemistry as calcite but having an orthorhombic crystal structure. It forms acicular crystals, radiating sprays, pseudohexagonal twins, stalactitic growths, and massive material in many colors.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Aragonite forms in marine shells and coral skeletons, caves, hot springs, hydrothermal veins, evaporitic settings, and low-temperature sedimentary environments. Over geological time it can transform into the more stable calcite structure. Famous crystal localities include Spain, Morocco, Namibia, and numerous cave and marine environments worldwide.
