Ametrine is a natural bicolored quartz variety containing zones of purple amethyst and yellow-to-orange citrine in the same crystal. Both colors are produced by different oxidation states and thermal histories of iron-related defects within quartz. It shares quartz's trigonal crystal structure and composition, SiO₂.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Natural ametrine requires a crystal to experience different temperature and oxidation conditions within separate growth zones. The world's classic commercial source is the Anahí Mine in Bolivia, where hydrothermal quartz veins produce well-developed bicolored crystals. Synthetic and artificially treated material also exists.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Ametrine combines the traditional symbolism of Amethyst and Citrine: contemplation with action, intuition with confidence, and inner awareness with outward expression. It is commonly used when a person needs both perspective and momentum—especially when an idea is clear but action has stalled. Its contrasting colors also make it a symbol of integrating apparently opposite qualities without forcing one to dominate the other.
