Aegirine is a sodium iron pyroxene with the formula NaFe³⁺Si₂O₆. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and typically forms elongated prismatic crystals in dark green, green-black, brown, or nearly black colors. Aegirine is the iron-rich end member of the aegirine–augite series.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Aegirine is strongly associated with alkaline igneous environments. It occurs in nepheline syenites, alkaline granites, phonolites, carbonatites, and related pegmatites, where sodium-rich and relatively silica-undersaturated magmas evolve unusual mineral assemblages. Notable occurrences include Norway, Russia's Kola Peninsula, Greenland, Canada, Malawi, and the United States.
