SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Adamite is a secondary zinc arsenate hydroxide mineral with the formula Zn₂(AsO₄)(OH). It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and is best known for brilliant yellow to yellow-green crystals, though colorless, white, pinkish, and copper-bearing green varieties also occur. Many specimens fluoresce strongly under ultraviolet light.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION
Adamite forms in the oxidized zones of zinc- and arsenic-bearing ore deposits, where primary sulfide minerals have been chemically altered near the surface. Fine specimens are especially associated with limonitic gossans and oxidized polymetallic deposits. Classic localities include the Ojuela Mine in Mapimí, Mexico, as well as deposits in Namibia, Greece, Chile, and elsewhere.
