Impactite
SCIENCE / MINERALOGY
Impactite is a broad geological term for rock that has been created or strongly modified by a meteorite impact. It may include shocked bedrock, breccia, impact melt rock, suevite, glass, and mixtures of target-rock fragments. Because its composition depends on the original geology and degree of shock, impactite is not a single mineral species.
GEOLOGY & FORMATION
During a large impact, extreme pressure and temperature fracture, deform, melt, and sometimes vaporize target rocks within seconds. Shock metamorphism can create planar deformation features in quartz, high-pressure minerals, melt glass, and complex breccias. Impactites occur at confirmed impact structures around the world.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Impactite is traditionally associated with sudden transformation, resilience, perspective, and adapting after events that rapidly change circumstances. Its actual geological formation embodies extreme disruption followed by stabilization into a new material.

ACCURACY / TRADE-NAME NOTE
Geological rock category, not a mineral. Claims of impact origin should be supported by confirmed locality or diagnostic shock evidence.
